Geneva International Airport Train Transfers

Trains from the airport all travel to Gare Geneva-Cornavin, the main train station in the heart of Geneva city. The CFF train station offers passengers access to all major cities in Switzerland as well as many of the neighbouring countries France and Germany.

Geneva Airport trains take only 6 minutes to reach the CFF main train station in the city center and trains leave approximately every 12 minutes. Passengers have direct access to the airport's train station at the check-in level and from the arrivals hall.

Train tickets can be bought at the train stations counters and at the airport upon arrival. Tickets can be purchased with Swiss Francs, Euros and with major credit cards. A Swiss Pass allows visitors unlimited use of the public transport network within Switzerland. Depending on the type of Swiss Pass purchased, tourists and business travelers can use the Swiss train network either for 4, 8, 15 or 22 consecutive days.

An extended Swiss Pass allows visitors to travel for a whole month. The German and French rail authorities offer a similar Rail Pass, making it is worthwhile to find out, what savings can be achieved by purchasing a pass in either country, (www.railaway.com for more information).

Trains from Geneva Airport can be used for free within the first 80 minutes of arriving in Switzerland, as can be the city buses waiting outside the Main Terminal. Upon arrival at the airport passengers can get free tickets from dispensers in the customs control area, just before they pass through actual the customs zone. These tickets are for the Unireso public transport network and allow train, tram as well as bus travel within the greater Geneva area.

Passengers staying either at a hotel, a youth hostel or at a campsite in the area can obtain a Geneva Transport Card which permits guests to use the public transport system for free during their stay in the city. An individual journey for Unireso public transport options within the city limits will cost CHF 2.00, while a ticket for the whole of Geneva will cost CHF 3.50 and CHF 2.50 on a reduced tariff for OAPs, students and unemployed.

The cost of tickets for Geneva Airport trains will depend on how many zones the passenger will have to cross within the greater Geneva area. Two zones cost CHF 3.40 on a 60 minute ticket, meaning the passenger has one hour to use the ticket and travel to their final destination. A Unireso ticket for all six zones will cost CHF 9.40 on a regular tariff and the ticket will be valid for 120 minutes or two hours.

Using trains to get around in Switzerland is fairly cheap, reliable and fast. Passengers can also use the check-in facilities at Swiss railway stations the night prior to their flight, avoiding the queues at the airport. A boarding card will be dispensed to passengers at the train stations. It only remains for the luggage to be checked-in for passengers travelling with more than just hand luggage.

It is also possible to buy train tickets online from www.cff.ch, where all major credit cards and Postcard are accepted.
